Layatharanga has emerged as the most prominent and enthusiastic music groups of India. The team specializes in "World Music" - a music form blending different styles from across the globe. Basing the foundation on carnatic classical music, layatharanga has gone on to amalgamate other music forms to produce a soothing and harmoniuos blend of music.

All the musicians of the group are masters in their own fields with their roots deep in carntic classical music. Using their repertoire of this rich knowlede, they have collaberated to bring this unique music style to the fore. Although it comprises many different sounds, the basic concept stems from carnatic music.

About Sonia Shirsat

Rated as the best Fadista (fado singer) in India of all time, Sonia has been singing Fado professionally for the last seven years and has performed Fado in Goa, Daman, Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Luxembourg, Macau and Lisbon. 

 

She has performed with the greats of Fado such as Fadista Katia Guerreiro, Maria Ana Bobone, Raquel Tavares, Rao Kyao, Carlos do Carmo, Argentina Santos, Miguel Capucho, Ricardo Rocha and Mestro Antonio Chainho.

Sonia has been invited time and again to the various TV channels in Portugal for live performances on RTPI, SIC and TVI. Sonia also with Antonio Chainho in his recent album ‘LISGOA’, which was released in March 2010 in Lisbon.

 

In May 2010, Sonia released her debut album, ‘Saudades de Fado’, with Rock and Raaga, in India. For Sonia, the concept is that Fado exists in the whole world, in all languages and all cultures. She has sung in 13 languages, and she has been called the Ambassador of Goan Music to the World.

The rich melodies, complex rhythm patterns and the intriguing intricacies of the carnatic style are used effectively in creating a new and refreshing music style.

 

This experimentation has won them rich accolades worldwide.

 

They have performed and collaborated individually and as a team with world renowned music maestros like Pandit Ravishankar, Dr.M.Balamuralikrishna, Dr.L.Subramanyam, Pandit Jasraj, K.J.Yesudas, M.S.Gopalakrishnan, Ganesh-Kumaresh, Pandit Anindo Chatterjee, Sivamani, Karl and Keith Peters, Mandolin Srinivas, Kadri Gopalnath, Nityashree Mahadevan, Sudha Raghunath, S.P.Balasubramaniam, Louis Banks.

 

KEFAYA is a new international music collective, founded by London-based musicians and producers Giuliano Modarelli and Al MacSween.

Over the past few years they have been collaborating with many esteemed Indian artists, including Shankar Mahadevan, Bickram Ghosh, Purbayan Chaterjee, Niladri Kumar, Shankar Tucker, Paban Das Baul, Sharmila Tagore, Pete Lockett, Talvin Singh and many others. 

 

In India, they will be performing material from their soon to be released debut album, Radio International, and continuing collaborations with Indian artists.

Kefaya organically combines electronic production with virtuosic improvisation, with influences spanning across Europe, India and Africa to the Caribbean and the Middle East.

Tuned-in to the struggle for equality and liberation, Radio International broadcasts stories of migration, tales of musical encounters and sounds of resistance.
